Caseload: Up to 10 Students (or determined by caseload needs)

Position Overview:

ATC Healthcare Services - New Jersey, a Joint Commission Certified healthcare staffing leader, is seeking a Long-Term Substitute School Nurse to provide direct nursing care and medical support for students in the East Orange Board of Education. This role involves working closely with students, families, educators, and the Child Study Team (CST) to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of students with medical and educational needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Medication Administration: Oral, subcutaneous, inhaled, or via feeding tube.
  • Monitoring Vital Signs: Heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, and O2 saturation.
  • Diabetes Management: Blood glucose monitoring and insulin administration.
  • Respiratory Support: Tracheostomy care (suctioning, tube changes), ventilator management, nebulizer therapy, oxygen administration, and chest physiotherapy.
  • Seizure Management: Emergency interventions such as Diastat or VNS device use.
  • Specialized Care: Catheterization (intermittent or Foley), ostomy care (colostomy/ileostomy), and site monitoring.
  • Nutritional Support: Tube feeding via NG, G-tube, or J-tube.


  • Collaboration & Communication:
    • Work alongside school nurses and pediatric physicians as needed.
    • Communicate with case managers and participate in Child Study Team (CST) meetings.
    • Coordinate with teachers, school staff, and central administration regarding student health needs.


Qualifications Required:
  • Current New Jersey Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • NJ School Nurse Certification (preferred) OR eligibility to obtain.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification.
  • At least 1 year of nursing experience (school-based or pediatric preferred).


Preferred:
  • Experience in tracheostomy and ventilator care.
  • Experience working in educational or pediatric settings.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
