Job Description
Under supervision, the Substance Abuse Counselor will schedule consumers for testing, assemble test materials, and administer tests. The counselor will also develop and implement behavior management and skills acquisition plans to support client recovery.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Hold a CAC-I (or equally recognized SA certification equivalent or higher) and assess the need for and provide substance abuse treatment and support for team consumers.
- Provide individualized substance abuse/addictive disease treatment to an average of at least 3 individuals daily as documented with progress notes reflecting use of evidence-based practices (EBP).
- Conduct weekly substance abuse groups with individuals who are dually diagnosed and engage individuals in group treatment.
- Maintain a caseload of 10-12 consumers, acting as the main point of contact and ensuring each has a scheduled medical appointment each month.
- Assist consumers with arranging transportation and planning to keep appointments.
- Follow up on all missed medical appointments.
- Provide at least 80% of services to consumers in the community.
- Attend an average of 4 weekly treatment team meetings, reporting on changes in clients and participating in next steps for consumers.
- Be available for after-hours (crisis phone) coverage as assigned and provide written notice of planned absence.
- Perform related duties as assigned by a supervisor.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
- CAC-I or Higher Certification
- Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university or certification as an addiction counselor from the Georgia Addiction Counselors Association (GACA) or equivalent certification
- Experience working with individuals with substance abuse and/or mental health diagnoses (preferred)
- Fingerprint-based background check of the Georgia and Federal Criminal History Record
- Drug screen
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- Knowledge of evidence-based practices for dually diagnosed populations
- Ability to use Motivational Interviewing
- Ability to provide an integrated treatment approach for mental health and substance abuse
