Renal Dialysis Registered Nurse RN

The RENAL DIALYSIS REGISTERED NURSE or Hemodialysis nurse works in a nephrology department of the hospital or renal dialysis unit. They provide personal care and help to the patients who undergo hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis due to kidney failure. The dialysis nurse reports to the department or shift supervisors.

We are currently looking for a Renal Dialysis Registered Nurse-RN for 13-week contracts in the City of Chicago.

EDUCATION

Graduate of an accredited school of registered nursing at the diploma, associate, or bachelor's degree level.

LICENSURE

Active and unrestricted RN license in the state of practice.

EXPERIENCE

At least two years of current experience as a peritoneal dialysis nurse in an outpatient setting. Prior experience in education and training patients in peritoneal dialysis within the last 3 years.

CREDENTIALS

Current BLS, ALS; and other health and screening tests as required by specific facilities and/or regulatory agencies. Current TB infectivity assessment. Covid 19 and current flu vaccination.

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Various client facility settings; possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious materials.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Complies with ATC policies/procedures.
  • Complies with client facility policies/procedures.
  • Provides patient care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that considers cultural diversity and age appropriateness so that autonomy, rights, and dignity are preserved.
  • Maintains confidentiality relative to patient care and facility practices in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Practices established infection control and cleans hands as per established guidelines.
  • Assesses pain, medicates, or contacts physicians for orders.
  • Provides pre-procedure and post-procedure teaching.
  • Arranges necessary equipment and supplies for kidney dialysis of the patients.
  • Ensures that the doctor is provided with all the lab work values as per protocol.
  • Provide patient monitoring during the dialysis process and post treatment.
  • Reports patient condition to appropriate personnel during shift. Responds to emergency conditions.
  • Operates dialysis machine.
  • Weighs patient, takes vital signs and blood samples.
  • Accesses dialysis port for treatment.
  • Determines clotting times and administers heparin according to a prescribed protocol.
  • Measures and adjusts blood flow rates.
  • Calculates fluid removal (TMP).
  • Monitors patient during treatment.
  • Documents treatment.
  • Observes dialysis equipment for correct functioning during dialysis, responds to alarms and makes appropriate adjustments.
  • Initiates cardiopulmonary resuscitation measures in the event of cardiac and/or pulmonary emergencies.
  • Discontinues dialysis utilizing established procedures. Cleans and dresses the access site using appropriate technique.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
