Job Requirements

Certified Peer Specialist

  • Valid Certified Peer Specialist Certificate
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Experience working with individuals with Mental Health Diagnoses and Substance Abuse Disorders (Preferred)
  • Fingerprint Based Background Check of the Georgia and Federal Criminal History Record
  • Drug Screen
  • Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for seven years
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be able to list and carry up to 50 lbs

Job Description
Under direct supervision, assists with daily living activities at the person's home, in a daytime non-residential facility or a residential facility. Observes and monitors client's behavior and charts observations and incidents. Provides training of basic personal and social skills, simple academics, or work skills to consumers/students in a state school, hospital, juvenile detention facility, residence, group home, workshop, or supported employment environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The purpose of the Certified Peer Specialist Staff is to meet the clients at their current state. Assist in developing coping skills to enable them to get where they want to be. Validate, acknowledge, recognize, respect, encourage and advocate.

  • Provide psycho-educational and creative therapy groups along with handouts based on the individual's treatment plan.
  • Ensure that groups begin and end as scheduled. Provide structure in groups when needed as evidence by articulation of consequences of destructive and or disrespectful behavior.
  • Monitor each peer-led by group for approximately 20 to 30 minutes to ensure peer-led engagement, response and live application processing.
  • Complete group notes on everyone's caseload in an accurate, concise, and timely manner. Ensure that the note contains pertinent information about the individuals current functioning and progress towards stated goals on their individualized treatment plan.
  • Provided authorized service- ensures that all applicable services are authorized prior to rendering services. Participant trained and learn how to check authorizations.
  • Demonstrates competence in direct service work with the individuals and or their family members. Follow through on individual treatment plans and interventions. Seek consultation and supervision in cases and participate in staffing for Peer referrals.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
