PSYCHIATRIST

JOB SUMMARY

The Psychiatrist is responsible for completing and overseeing a variety of professional assignments for the treatment of patients in various facilities. The ideal candidate for this position would be able to fulfill the following duties:
  • Participate in the diagnosis and treatment of students.
  • Complete physical, mental information assessments.
  • Treat psychiatric and neurological medical conditions of patients in the facility.
  • Consult with patients and families, other medical professionals, attorneys, teachers, and other identified personnel to interpreted clinical findings.
  • Prepare diagnostic reports for judges, administrative law examiners, federal government officials, school officials, physicians and other identified parties.
  • Direct professional support staff in the care and treatment of students.
  • Provisioned in SSM for IEP meetings.
  • Have a strong knowledge of mental health, physiological disorders and medication effects.
  • Prescribe medications for the treatment of physical and psychological disorders.

EDUCATION

Required education for a Psychiatrist is a degree in medicine in addition to a bachelor's degree, and residency training in an accredited facility. Board certification in primary care or related field from said residency.

LICENSURE

Current state medical license and a Federal DEA license. Current Drug Enforcement Agency and Department of Public Safety registration is required to prescribe medication. A Psychiatrist will have completed a U.S. Medical Licensing Examination, including a possession of a license to practice medicine in the state of practice.

EXPERIENCE

One year of current psychiatrist practice in a mental health facility or clinic.

CREDENTIALS

Current CPR at least to the BLS level; and other health and screening tests as required by specific facilities and/or regulatory agencies.

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Various client facility settings; possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious materials.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Complies with ATC policies/procedures.
  • Complies with client facility policies/procedures.
  • Documents accurately and completely services provided.
  • Maintains confidentiality relative to patient care and facility practices in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Provides patient care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that considers cultural diversity and age appropriateness so that autonomy, rights, and dignity are preserved.
  • Communicates information effectively to appropriate personnel.
  • Advocates patient rights in relation to organ donation and advance directives.
  • Maintains competency by participating in continuing medical education programs and meets state specific requirements.
