Job Requirements

Licensed Practical Nurse / LPN

  • Current State Specific LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE / LPN License
  • Basic Life Support / BLS from the American Heart Association / AHA or the American Red Cross
  • Minimum of 6 months experience as a LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE / LPN preferred.

Job Description

  • Medication administration as ordered by physician
  • Transcribe medications so they can be accurately given by nursing staff
  • Monitor, document, and manage infectious disease
  • Supervise client support staff working alone side
  • Possesses a distinct body of knowledge and skills relative to the care of the adult or geriatric patient who is experiencing mental health disorders requiring behavioral, psychosocial, and physical assessment, therapies, and interventions.
  • Applies specialized nursing knowledge in assessing, implementing, and evaluating patient response to complex conditions, therapies and interventions.
  • Initiates nursing care, health teaching, and health counseling that support life and restore well-being, in accordance with the nurse practice act and under the direction and supervision of the appropriate personnel on the assigned Psychiatric/Mental Health Unit.
  • Complies with ATC policies/procedures.
  • Complies with client facility nursing policies/procedures.
  • Assists with developing priorities, goals, and action plans; develops and maintains scheduling procedures for staffing of nursing care.
  • Assists in formulating philosophy and objectives; establishes standards of nursing care and nursing practice.
  • Selects, orients, supervises and evaluates supervisors and clinical nurses; establishes standards of performance and maintains an evaluation system for clinical personnel; assists with identifying educational needs for staff and establishes in-service/development programs; collaborates with professional and technical schools to enhance clinical education programs.
  • Facilitates communication and problem solving for departments; leads or serves on committees; serves as a liaison between the medical staff and ancillary departments.
  • Serves as a resource person; develops, interprets, supports and implements policies and procedures; responsible for planning, preparation, utilization, evaluation and monitoring of budget.
  • Ensures departmental activities and records adhere to regulatory requirements; evaluates the nursing care given and makes recommendations to develop action plans for improvements; assists with development and implementation of service standards and patient satisfaction.
  • Oversees compliance of staff to infection control practices and mandatory education requirements; performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains confidentiality relative to patient care and facility practices in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Communicates information effectively to appropriate personnel.
  • Ensures department provides patient services in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that considers cultural diversity and age appropriateness so that autonomy, rights, and dignity are preserved.
  • Advocates patient rights with respect to advance directives and organ donation.
  • Maintains competency by participating in continuing education programs and meets state specific requirements.
  • Complies with accepted ethical conduct and professional standards of nursing practice as set forth by the American Nurses Association or equivalent nursing organization.
