Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical Orthopedics - Travel Position (with $7,500 Completion Bonus)

Location: Grand Island NE
Job Type: Travel Contract
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: 3x12 Nights
Pay: $2,224.80 /week (plus $2,500 completion bonus per contract, up to $7,500 after three contracts) 

 


Job Summary:

The Med Surg Ortho Registered Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care to patients recovering from orthopedic surgeries and those with musculoskeletal conditions. This role involves managing post-operative care, pain control, mobility assistance, and patient education while ensuring adherence to safety and infection control standards.

 


Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct patient care for orthopedic and general medical-surgical patients.
  • Monitor vital signs, surgical sites, and neurovascular status; promptly report changes.
  • Administer medications, pain management therapies, and IV fluids as prescribed.
  • Assist patients with mobility, transfers, and physical therapy exercises.
  • Educate patients and families on post-operative care, discharge instructions, and rehabilitation plans.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Collaborate with surgeons, physical therapists, and multidisciplinary teams to optimize recovery.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital protocols, infection control, and safety standards.

 


Qualifications:

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing).
  • Licensure: Current RN license in [State].
  • Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – Preferred
    • Orthopedic Nursing Certification (ONC) – Preferred
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 1 year of Med Surg or orthopedic nursing experience preferred.

 


Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of orthopedic procedures and post-op care.
  • Excellent assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Effective communication and patient education abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

 


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and assist with patient mobility for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity for wound care and medication administration.
