Monitor Technician
- Rhythm Surveillance: Continuously observe, interpret, evaluate, and document EKG tracings on telemetry-monitored patients.
- Alarm Management: Rapidly respond to monitor alarms and promptly notify appropriate clinical staff of dysrhythmias and other critical findings.
- Equipment Operation: Operate and utilize monitoring systems to their full capacity while ensuring the proper, safe functioning of telemetry equipment.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate, complete records of patient monitoring data and report logs for the medical teams.
- Collaboration: Work alongside nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to maintain comprehensive, high-quality patient care.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Training: Completion of a monitor technician surveillance program/course is required upon hire. Candidates without this training must complete an approved certificate program within 90 days of hire.
- Experience: 1 year of recent experience in monitor technician surveillance within the last 5 years may be accepted in lieu of formal course requirements.
- Competency: Must successfully complete the Sentara Basic Arrhythmia competency tool, including passing a basic arrhythmia exam, prior to completing new employee orientation.
- Skills: Strong organizational skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm and focused in a fast-paced healthcare setting.
