Position Overview
As a PCU Registered Nurse at Sentara CarePlex Hospital, you will deliver specialized care to patients with complex medical conditions or those recovering from acute surgical procedures. You will bridge the gap between ICU and med-surg by caring for high-acuity patients who require close monitoring, frequent assessments, and specialized nursing interventions.
Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Monitoring: Conduct continuous telemetry monitoring, interpret cardiac rhythms, and analyze vital signs to rapidly identify and respond to patient deterioration.
  • Clinical Care: Administer complex medications (including cardiac/insulin drips), manage IV therapies, and perform treatments such as wound care and device management.
  • Collaboration: Work alongside physicians, respiratory therapists, and the broader healthcare team to develop, implement, and adjust individualized patient care plans.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate, real-time documentation within the hospital's electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Patient Education: Provide compassionate support and education to patients and their families regarding their diagnosis, treatment plans, and discharge needs.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited professional Nursing program (ADN, BSN, or MSN).
  • Licensure: Active, unencumbered Virginia Registered Nurse (RN) license or valid compact multi-state license.
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required (AHA-certified).
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 to 2 years of recent acute care, telemetry, step-down, or critical care experience.
