Job Summary
As an L&D Registered Nurse, you will assess, plan, and provide specialized nursing care to low- and high-risk patients during the labor, delivery, and recovery phases. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including OB-GYNs, certified nurse-midwives, OB hospitalists, and lactation consultants to ensure optimal outcomes.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Care: Perform comprehensive maternal and fetal assessments throughout the labor process.
  • Delivery Assistance: Assist physicians and midwives during vaginal deliveries and prepare surgical areas for Cesarean sections.
  • Medication & Treatment: Safely administer prescribed medications and monitor the physiological responses of both mother and baby.
  • Patient Education: Guide new families on pain management options, infant nutrition, and skin-to-skin bonding.
  • Unit Support: Actively participate in the Transition to Practice / Nurse Residency Program if new to the specialty.
 
Qualifications
  • Education: Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Required).
  • Licensure: Valid Virginia RN License or Multi-State Compact RN License.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of acute care RN experience. (Candidates new to the specialty are welcome and will be placed in a tailored Transition to Practice track).
  • Certifications: BLS (Required within 90 days), NRP (Required within 6 months).
