Monitor Technician
- Cardiac Monitoring: Continuously observe, interpret, and evaluate EKG tracings on telemetry-monitored patients to identify cardiac abnormalities and arrhythmias.
- Prompt Notification: Immediately notify appropriate nursing and medical personnel of any dysrhythmias or alarming deviations from a patient's baseline.
- Documentation: Accurately document rhythm strips, patient data, and cardiac history into the electronic health record systems.
- Equipment Management: Operate monitoring systems to their full capacity, safely manage telemetry equipment, and troubleshoot hardware/battery issues.
- Patient Safety: Maintain a constant focus on safety by promoting a positive patient experience and strictly adhering to patient privacy and confidentiality standards.
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Certification/Experience: Completion of a recognized monitor technician surveillance program/course is required upon hire. Substitution: 1 year of experience in monitor technician surveillance within the last 5 years is accepted.
- Conditional Training: Candidates without a completed program must finish an approved certificate program within 90 days of hire.
- Competency Assessment: To be fully released from orientation, all technicians must successfully pass the Sentara Basic Arrhythmia competency tool and exam.
