Nurse Shift Manager (RN)

Location: Bakersfield, CA
Contract Type: Travel
Duration: 16 weeks
Shift: 3x12 Days or 3x12 Nights (EOW, first to float)
Pay: $2,538/week
Completion Bonus: $2,500 per contract (up to $7,500 after three contracts)

Job Description
ATC Healthcare is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for a Nurse Shift Manager travel assignment in an acute care setting. This role blends charge nurse, clinical mentor, and on-shift leadership responsibilities. The RN provides operational and clinical oversight during the shift, supports bedside staff, promotes patient safety, and helps maintain a positive care environment. Three weeks of orientation are provided, including classroom and unit-based training. Manager interview required. First-time travelers are not accepted.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide on-shift leadership to support safe, high-quality patient care
• Serve as charge nurse based on census and staffing needs
• Mentor and support nursing staff during shifts
• Round on patients to address safety and service concerns
• Act as a clinical and interpersonal resource for staff
• Coordinate workflow and staffing adjustments during shift
• Escalate and resolve patient care or operational issues
• Float first when needed based on unit requirements
• Document appropriately in the Cerner charting system

Qualifications

• Active RN license required at submission
• Recent charge nurse experience required (last assignment)
• Prior leadership or shift management experience preferred
• First-time travelers not accepted
• BLS certification (AHA) required
• ACLS certification required
• NIHSS certification required (AHA or APEX)
• Acute care experience required
• BSN not required
