Pay: $2,250.00/week
Completion Bonus: $2,500 per contract (up to $7,500 after three contracts)

Job Description

ATC Healthcare is seeking a highly skilled Step Down / Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse (RN) for a travel assignment in Redlands, California. This is a high-acuity step-down environment caring for complex patients requiring advanced monitoring, ventilator and tracheostomy management, and cardiac care.

The RN will provide specialized nursing care for medically complex patients, including those with respiratory failure, cardiac conditions, renal failure, and neurological diagnoses. This role requires strong clinical judgment, advanced technical skills, and the ability to manage high-acuity patient assignments in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide advanced step-down/PCU nursing care for high-acuity patients.
• Manage tracheostomy and ventilated patients in a 1:3 ratio model.
• Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms and dysrhythmias.
• Manage non-titrated cardiac and vasoactive drips, including:
  • Amiodarone
  • Milrinone
  • Lasix
  • Cardizem (titrated)
  • Dopamine
  • Dobutamine
• Provide telemetry monitoring and cardiac care.
• Administer medications and treatments per provider orders.
• Manage feeding tubes, central lines, PICC lines, ports, and peripheral IVs.
• Perform heparin protocols and blood product administration.
• Provide care for post-MI, CVA, renal failure, and respiratory failure patients.
• Manage chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-Evac), HFNC, CPAP/BIPAP, and ventilators.
• Interpret ABGs and manage oxygen delivery systems.
• Participate in rapid response and code team activations.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
• Float within areas of competency (Med/Surg, Telemetry, Observation).

Qualifications

• Active California RN license (required at time of submission).
• Minimum 2 years of recent experience in:
  • Stepdown / PCU / IMC / DOU
  • Med-Surg / Telemetry
• REQUIRED Certifications:
  • BLS (AHA only)
  • ACLS
  • NIHSS
• Meditech Expanse experience preferred.
• Telemetry experience required.
• Must meet 1:3 trach and ventilator management competency.
• Will consider first-time travelers with strong PCU experience and 1:3–1:4 ratios.
• Strong critical thinking, clinical judgment, and emergency response skills.
• Must meet physical and clinical demands of the role.
