The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU)/Stepdown unit provides high quality nursing care to patients requiring close monitoring and specialized support. This role involves managing complex conditions, interpreting clinical data, coordinating care with the interdisciplinary team, and ensuring patient safety in a fast paced hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care & Monitoring

• Provide direct nursing care to patients transitioning from ICU-level care or requiring higheracuity monitoring.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans.
• Monitor cardiac rhythms, vital signs, lab results, and clinical changes.
• Administer medications, treatments, and interventions per provider orders.

Clinical Skills & Procedures

• Manage patients requiring telemetry, titratable drips (unit dependent), wound care, and postoperative monitoring.
• Perform clinical tasks such as IV therapy, central line care, and airway support as permitted by scope.
• Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition.

Collaboration & Communication

• Work closely with physicians, respiratory therapists, case managers, and other healthcare team members.
• Provide clear communication with patients and families regarding care plans, progress, and education.
• Participate in shift hand offs and interdisciplinary rounds.

Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical records (EMR) documentation.
• Follow hospital policies, regulatory standards, and evidence based practices.
• Ensure compliance with patient safety initiatives, infection control, and quality improvement protocols.
