Dosimetrist – Radiology/Cardiology - Travel Position (with $7,500 Completion Bonus)

Location: Berkeley, CA
Job Type: Travel Contract
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: 5x8 Days
Pay: $3,279.20/week (plus $2,500 completion bonus per contract, up to $7,500 after three contracts) 

 


Position Summary:

The Dosimetrist is responsible for designing, calculating, and optimizing radiation treatment plans to support safe and effective patient care. Working closely with Radiation Oncologists, Medical Physicists, and the broader clinical team, the Dosimetrist ensures accurate dose distribution and adherence to clinical protocols. This role requires strong technical expertise, precision, and a deep understanding of radiation physics and anatomy to deliver highquality treatment planning for oncology and cardiovascular imaging systems as applicable.

 


Key Responsibilities:

Treatment Planning & Dosimetry:

  • Develop and calculate complex radiation treatment plans using 3D, IMRT, VMAT, SBRT, SRS, brachytherapy, or other advanced planning modalities.
  • Utilize treatment planning systems (TPS) to simulate and optimize dose distribution while protecting surrounding critical structures.
  • Perform dose calculations and verify accuracy using established physics and clinical protocols.
  • Prepare devices such as blocks, compensators, immobilization tools, or custom bolus materials as needed.

Collaboration & Clinical Support:

  • Work closely with Radiation Oncologists to interpret prescriptions and translate them into clinically sound treatment plans.
  • Partner with Medical Physicists on quality assurance (QA), equipment calibration, and plan validation.
  • Provide technical guidance to Radiation Therapists during treatment setup and delivery.

Quality Assurance & Compliance:

  • Participate in chart checks, plan reviews, and departmental QA processes.
  • Ensure all treatment plans meet national guidelines, safety protocols, and accreditation standards.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the oncology EMR and treatment planning systems.

Technology & Systems Management:

  • Operate and maintain familiarity with imaging systems (CT simulation, MRI fusion, PET/CT) used for treatment planning.
  • Assist with system updates, testing, and troubleshooting of planning software and radiation delivery platforms.

Patient Care & Safety:

  • Support simulation workflows by assisting with imaging acquisition and patient positioning as needed.
  • Ensure patient safety by applying ALARA principles and adhering to regulatory requirements.

 


Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Radiation Therapy, Medical Physics, or a related field required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Dosimetry program preferred.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) required or eligible within 12 months.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (facility dependent).

Experience:

  • Minimum 1–2 years of clinical dosimetry or radiation therapy experience preferred.
  • Experience with advanced treatment planning systems (e.g., Eclipse, RayStation, Pinnacle) strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with oncology imaging systems (CT/MRI/PET) and fusion software.

Skills:

  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and physics-based problemsolving skills.
  • Proficiency with treatment planning software and oncology EMR systems.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to work with high precision and attention to detail under timesensitive conditions.
